TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo will today, January 13, receive his first dose of Covid-19 vaccine. He and regional heads are among the first recipients in Indonesia.
Presidential Secretariat deputy head of protocol, press, and media, Bey Machmudin, confirmed on Tuesday that the process will be broadcast live. Yet he stopped short of detailing the place.
“The inaugural jab will be broadcast live via online streaming media,” said Bey on Tuesday, Jan. 12.
On Tuesday night, the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel uploaded a link for the live broadcast of the President’s vaccination demonstration which was slated to commence at 09:00 Western Indonesian Time (WIB). The live broadcast can be accessed here.
The Covid-19 vaccine to be used will be the one developed by China-based biopharmaceutical firm Sinovac that had been approved by the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) and obtained an emergency use authorization (EUA) following three-month clinical trials in Bandung, West Java. The Indonesian Ulema Council had also declared its halal status.
The Health Ministry previously affirmed that Jokowi will get the Sinovac vaccine. The same vaccine had been distributed to 34 provinces. As planned, the government will kick off national mass immunization after the president’s jab. The first priority group for vaccination is health workers.
