Papua Jolted by 5.7 Richter-Scale Earthquake

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued an early warning of an earthquake measuring 5.7 magnitudes on the Richter scale in Papua in the early hours of Wednesday, January 13, 2021.
The agency informed via its official page www.bmkg.go.id, quoted in Jakarta today, the quake occurred at 01:17 Western Indonesian Time (WIB) at a depth of 74 kilometers.
The quake’s epicenter was detected at 2.87 degrees South Latitude and 136.94 degrees East Longitude or 30 kilometers southeast of Waropen.
According to the BMKG, the earthquake did not have the potential to trigger a tsunami.
The tremor was felt by the people in Nabire at a low intensity or the II-III level of the Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI).
