Jakarta Records Nearly 3,000 New COVID-19 Cases; Highest Daily Hike Thus Far

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta provincial government recorded 2,959 new cases of COVID-19 today, Jan. 8, 2021. The figure was the highest daily increase reported since the pandemic hit the country in March 2020.
With the additional figures, the number of confirmed cases in the capital city has reached 200,658.
The city’s Health Agency Head of Disease Prevention and Control, Dwi Oktavia, outlined that the agency today carried out PCR tests on 16,712 specimens. Of which, 2,204 results came back positive, and the rest were negative.
“The total addition of positive cases is 2,959 because there are accumulated data of 755 from two private laboratories and one state-owned laboratory from seven days ago that have been just reported,” said Dwi in a written statement.
Jakarta’s total PCR test per one million population reached 210,355 as of today. Meanwhile, the number of PCR tests last week hit 102,183.
As reported earlier, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has inked a Gubernatorial Regulation (Pergub) concerning the enforcement of a tighter social restriction beginning January 11-25, 2021.
