Java-Bali Social Restriction; Hotel Association Says Losses Inevitable

8 January 2021 13:49 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chairman of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurants Association (PHRI) Haryadi Sukamdi said the enforcement of community activity restrictions (PPKM) in Java and Bali islands will greatly affect tourism businesses. There would be a significant drop in tourist visits as it coincides with tourism’s low season.

“Even without the pandemic, the first quarter will definitely see low visits due to the low season. In addition to this situation, losses are inevitable,” said Haryadi Sukamdi on Thursday, January 7.

He predicted that hotel occupancy, in Jakarta for example, will slump with the occupancy rate below 20 percent or even just a single digit. Comparing to the low seasons in normal situations, the occupancy would normally hit nearly 60 percent occupancy.

However, Haryadi asserts that the PHRI will continue to support the government in suppressing the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic as a collective stakeholder that must be responsible for its mitigation. PHRI management is opening the possibility to establish partnership with numerous parties to provide affordable antigen rapid testing kits amidst the social restriction.
