  • TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Covid-19 Task Force noted that during the Christmas and New Year holidays from December 24 to January 3, 1.1 million people were spotted in tourist destinations. This is more than 65 percent higher compared to the previous 11 days.

The number of people who were at tourist attractions from December 24-27, and from New Year's Eve to January 3, was recorded to have increased 94 percent.

"During the two weekends of Christmas and New Year, [the number of visitors] almost doubled compared to the previous two weeks," Dewi Nur Aisyah, head of Data and Technology and expert of the Covid-19 Task Force Expert Team, said on January 6.

Moreover, Dewi said, the Task Force noted that the number of people at tourist attractions during the New Year holidays was more than during the Christmas weekend.

"If we compare Christmas holidays with New Year's, the difference in number is very significant, in fact. In the New Year holidays, the increase actually reached 161 percent compared to the previous week," he said.
