TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo asked all Indonesian people to patiently wait for the Covid-19 vaccine call while staying disciplined in implementing the predetermined health protocols.
"Are you waiting for the Covid-19 vaccine? Be patient. Me too," said the President on his Instagram account @jokowi on Thursday, January 7, 2021.
Jokowi confirmed that the antibodies have been already available and were being distributed to regions, yet the vaccination awaited the emergency use permit from the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) and the halal study from the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI).
"If the procedure completes, the government will hold a free Covid-19 vaccination for all Indonesians in several stages," he added.
As widely reported, regional heads will be the first to receive the vaccine. The schedule was slated next week on January 13, 2021.
"And I will be the first to receive the Covid-19 vaccine. Why is the President the first? This does not mean I want to put myself first, but to ensure everyone that this vaccine is safe and halal. So, get ready," said Jokowi.
