3 Provinces with the Highest Number of Covid-19 Cases in Indonesia

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The daily Covid-19 cases in Indonesia continue to break previous records as the national pandemic mitigation task force reported 8,854 new confirmed cases on Wednesday, January 6. Citing the Covid-19 task force’s data, there are three provinces in Indonesia that have greatly contributed to the rising number of cases. 

The first is the Capital City of Jakarta which recorded 2,402 new confirmed cases, adding to the total active cases to 15,376. Patients are treated in the city’s hospitals and isolation facilities, with some people self-isolating. In total, Jakarta has recorded 193.899 cases with 174.131 recoveries and a 90.3 percent recovery rate, while the mortality rate is 1.8 percent with 3,392 cases. 

The second-largest number of cases comes from West Java that, as of today, records 91,131 cases in total, 77,521 recoveries, and 1,199 deaths due to coronavirus. 

The third region is Central Java with 1,023 confirmed daily cases, adding to a total of 87,568 cases. The province reported 59,973 recoveries while the number of death cases was recorded to be 3,888 in total. 

Citing the map on the Covid-19 spread, Indonesia currently has 54 regencies and cities that are categorized as red zones (high risk). Central Java ranks the highest with 9 regencies and cities with the most number of confirmed cases.
