TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - House of Representatives (DPR) Commission X speaker Felly Estelita Runtuweneon Tuesday said a breakthrough solution must be established by the government to combat the spread of Covid-19 and pitched the government to implement a partial lockdown as one of the solutions.
She believes that efforts need to be exponentially improved other than urging people to comply with the 3M (washing hands, use of face masks, and physical distancing) health protocol.
“There needs to be extraordinary handling of this matter. It no longer involves calls to comply with 3M, but the government must make a breakthrough such as imposing partial lockdown,” wrote the DPR Commission X member on January 5.
Her suggestion comes after the fact that the Covid-19 transmission in Indonesia is not showing signs of reducing. The country is currently ranked within the top 20 of the World Health Organization’s highest number of cases with 771,103 confirmed cases and the average daily confirmed cases of 7,000.
“The partial lockdown will maximize the regional government’s role upon reducing infections and healthcare facilities procurement,” she stated.
One of the aspects in terms of the government’s handling of the pandemic that she criticizes is the cooperation from central government and the lack of involvement with regional-level administrations in battling the Covid-19 pandemic.
