Sandiaga Uno Encourages the Use of Big Data in Tourism

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno on Thursday has encouraged businesses in the tourism industry to utilize big data to boost tourism.

In a discussion with business owners surrounding Lake Toba, Sandi told that "We must focus on domestic tourists and we can also utilize a big data approach to find out the types of people who would be interested in taking a holiday at Lake Toba,” he said in a statement after the meeting on December 31. 

The minister recalled being ordered by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo to boost the visitation and general appeal across five destinations for the next year to accelerate the economic recovery during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Sandiaga Uno also said that the President asked him to have tourism businesses focus not only on international tourists but also on domestic tourists.
