Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin Hoped Covid-19 Vaccine to Finish in Two Weeks

30 December 2020 18:57 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Millions of Covid-19 vaccines have been purchased by the government and will be provided through various channels in stages. Ministry of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin hoped that the first stage of the procurement of the vaccines can be completed immediately.

"I think the vaccine procurement and approval stages, by God's willing, can be completed in a week or two," Budi said in a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday, December 30, 2020.

If the first stage has been completed, Budi said, the Ministry of Health can begin the second stage, which is the distribution of the vaccine throughout the country "in a short time."

And then the third stage, which is the vaccination of Covid-19 vaccine en masse in all service points. Budi requested the support of all the people because the vaccination program cannot be done by the Ministry of Health alone.

Previously, PT Bio Farma (Persero) had signed an agreement to purchase Covid-19 vaccines with two pharmaceutical companies, AstraZeneca and Novavax. The number of vaccines purchased reached up to 100 million doses in total.

"This provides enough variation for the Indonesian people, which vaccine they will use," Budi said.

The new agreement complements the 1.2 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines purchased from Sinovac, which have entered Indonesia on December 7, 2020. On thursday, December 31, 2020, another 1.8 million doses of vaccines from Sinovac will also enter Indonesia.

"In total, 3 million vaccines from Sinovac are in Indonesia," said Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi.
