TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia stated that he had targetted to conduct the groundbreaking ceremony of the integrated electric vehicle battery cell industry project in the first semester of 2021.
"Hopefully it will not be long and it's likely that the groundbreaking will happen in the first semester of 2021," said Lahadalia on December 30, 2020. "This is not an MoU, it isn't, but in the first semester of 2021, God's willing, the first phase will start with the construction of the factory."
The first phase of the project will be kicked off by the partnership between Seoul-based firm LG Energy Solution Ltd and a consortium of state-owned enterprises. The ratification of the partnership was held on December 18, 2020, in South Korea, which was attended by the country's Trade, Industry, and Energy Minister Sung Yun-mo.
The mega-investment consists of building an electric vehicle battery cell industry that is integrated with other aspects of mining, smelter, and refining. It will also involve the precursor and cathode industry with planned investments up to USD 9.8 billion or roughly IDR 142 trillion.
The location of this project will be located in the 4,300 hectares of the Batang Integrated Industry Area (KIT) in Central Java.
