Govt' to Disburse Cash Aid in 2021

29 December 2020 20:21 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government will continue its pandemic aid program 'Bansos Covid-19' throughout 2021. However, the aid will not take the form of staple goods, but will take the form of direct cash aid, especially for the Greater Jakarta Area (Jabodetabek) distribution.

The cash aid will be distributed through the national postal service Pos Indonesia and various bank accounts starting as soon as January 2020. In the meeting which discussed the program's preparation, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo made it clear that he wants the distribution process to be problem-free.

"I have reiterated this numerous times, do not let there be any 'cutting here and there' just like the incident involving the distribution in the Greater Jakarta Area," said the President a meeting on Tuesday, December 29, 2020.

As previously reported, former Social Minister Juliari Batubara was arrested after he had been alleged for corrupting the government's pandemic social assistance in the Greater Jakarta Area distribution region. Juliari is believed to have kept embezzled IDR 10,000 from each of the social aid packages that are worth IDR 300,000.

The new government cash aid will be distributed by Pos Indonesia to 10 million recipients across Indonesia with each beneficiary planned to receive IDR 300,000 from January to April 2021. The cash aid is hoped to spark the economy in the middle-to-lower economy.
