New Capital City Project Awaits Political Decision: Bappenas

29 December 2020 12:12 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Ubud - National Development Planning Minister or Bappenas Head Suharso Monoarfa confirmed that his side had completed the master plan for the new capital city construction project.

According to him, the Presidential Regulation on the construction and authority of the new capital has been prepared, and the bill has also been listed to the National Legislation Program.

Thus, Suharso said the project only awaited the political decision. Moreover, the funding from the government was subject to change amid the country’s efforts in containing the Covid-19 pandemic.

“All awaits orders because we are still calculating the budget allocation for 2021 that is likely to be adjusted again, which is not for efficiency but the provision of vaccines,” said Suharso in a press conference in Bali on Monday, Dec. 28, 2020.

However, the minister argued that the development of the new capital is necessary to create jobs and fasten economic transformation.

The government also planned to use clean energy in the new capital city so that it will contribute to Indonesia's renewable energy mix, which presently reached 14 percent. “Because the capital city is not allowed to use conventional energy, but renewable energy mix (EBT),” said Suharso.
