TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government is still waiting for an official announcement from the world's soccer governing body, FIFA, on the postponement of the U-20 World Cup from 2021 to 2023.
Youth and Sports Minister Zainudin Amali said that he learned about the postponement of the U-20 World Cup from the official FIFA website.
"What FIFA conveyed on its official website is a postponement notification. However, we hope there will be an official letter from FIFA," he said at an online press conference after attending a coordination meeting with Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Muhadjir Effendy, and representatives from ministries and non-ministerial government institutions on Monday.
The government has asked the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) to coordinate with FIFA regarding an official letter on the postponement of the U-20 World Cup.
"We hope PSSI to coordinate with FIFA in order to announce an official letter (about the postponement) soon,” Amali said.
The government will continue to prepare various plans following a postponement, he added.
The plans pertain to the maintenance of football stadiums and a change in the composition of the national team selected for the U-20 World Cup.
