TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The investigation team of the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) planned to publish the progress of their investigation on the shooting of six members of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) which occurred on Monday, Dec. 7.
The investigation team chairman Choirul Anam said the announcement will be held at the Komnas HAM office in Central Jakarta today, Dec. 28, 2020. “These findings are obtained after nearly three weeks the team worked in the field and interviewed a number of parties,” said Anam.
Komnas HAM has investigated the fatal incident by questioning various parties, including the police, FPI, and Jasa Marga as the toll road operator. They also examined the site.
As widely reported, the police claimed that in self-defense, their officers had to open fire and shoot dead six FPI members for resisting arrest.
Meanwhile, the FPI denies the police’s official statement, saying that its people had no firearms or sharp weapons. The mass organization led by Rizieq Shihab suspected extrajudicial killing in the incident and said the police committed a massacre against its members.
