Susi Pudjiastuti on Lobster Policy: One Day, Nature Will Give You Back

24 December 2020 20:10 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe former maritime affairs and fisheries minister Susi Pudjiastuti has spoken up about the ban on lobster seed exports she issued which was then revoked following the change in a ministerial position.

She admitted that sometimes she felt the policy was a waste as it was annulled. “Yes, sometimes. But I think again, I tried my best. I cry [over it] sometimes, but I can’t do anything,” said Susi during a talk show of Mata Najwa which was broadcasted via Youtube on Wednesday, Dec. 23.

The former minister was evasive when she was asked about the arrest of her successor Edhy Prabowo for the alleged bribery case of lobster seeds export. “I have no comment. I was sorry [that happened], I was concerned about it,” Susi said.

However, she admitted that she was not shocked by the news. “It’s always there. The game is always there. I was fighting for that for five years, but I failed,” she said.

According to Susi, a good public policy could easily be changed by someone who has power. “People who have power, who are in charge, insist... Now I can see how public policy can be adjusted into anything if you have power. And that's sad,” she remarked.

The former minister, nevertheless, expressed confidence that in the future, nature will in the end pay back all regulations that are against sustainability in its own way. “I'm still a believer in the power of nature and its resilience. So one day, nature will give you back,” Susi said.

Susi Pudjiastuti was also non-committal about the inauguration of the new Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, hoping that the balance of nature could always be promoted in the future.
