TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The national Covid-19 task force announced that the worrying growth of active cases of infection to more than 100,000 is no longer tolerable.
“The increased number of active cases is truly worrying,” said Wiku Adisasmito, Covid-19 task force spokesperson. “This cannot be tolerated anymore and is an alarm for us all to try our best to prevent the situation from going even more uncontrollable.”
Within one month, Indonesia’s active cases growth is showing a worsening trend after passing 100,000 cases throughout November - December. The accelerated rate of active Covid-19 cases is evident in November’s 54,804 cases that suddenly grew to 104,809 active cases on December 21.
He said the active cases are due to the high infection rate in public and the lack of early detection efforts preventing cases from spreading to people who are not infected. This will also present challenges for the healthcare services as it would overburden the system.
Wiku Adisasmito asserts that the rise and drop of the Covid-19 case graph depends on the public’s collective efforts.
