TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Awakening Party's (PKB) Chairman of Central Executive Board (DPP) Faisol Riza, said that the naming of Yaqut Cholil Qoumas as Minister of Religious Affairs is a form of President Jokowi's love for PKB.
"That is the love of Jokowi for PKB," Riza said on Tuesday, December 22, 2020.
The announcement of Yaqut Cholil Qoumas as Minister of Religious Affairs was beyond public expectations. Several names that were rumored to take the position were Yahya Cholil Staquf and the Indonesian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Agus Maftuh Abegebriel.
Yahya and Yaqut are brothers, sons of one of the founders of PKB Cholil Bisri. Yahya serves in a senior position or as Katib Am of the Islamic organization Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and a member of the Presidential Advisory Council, while Yaqut is the chairman of the Ansor Youth Movement (GP Ansor), the youth wing of NU.
Previously on Monday, December 21, 2020, Riza expressed his confidence that the President loved his party and was optimistic that three of its cadres in the Indonesia Onward Cabinet would not be affected by the reshuffle.
In fact, Agus Suparmanto was removed from his position as Trade Minister. However, Riza claimed M. Lutfi as the new Trade Minister was the PKB’s representative. "He was assigned by PKB," he said.
