TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi on Tuesday announced that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will be visiting Indonesia in 2021.
This was announced after the minister had met with Turkish Foreign Affairs Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.
“This is a return visit by President Erdogan after President Joko Widodo’s visit to Ankara in 2017,” said Retno in the virtual press conference with Cavusoglu on December 22.
Retno claims this visit signals elevated relations between Indonesia and Turkey to a new height as both countries are looking to establish a high-level strategic council which will act as a forum for leaders of the two countries to regularly discuss strategic bilateral, regional, and multilateral issues that is the collective interest of the two governments.
The visit of Mevlut Cavusoglu in Indonesia marks the first time in 15 years and is scheduled for a courtesy call with President Jokowi.
