TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government’s spokesperson for the COVID-19 vaccine, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, on Friday assured that the COVID-19 free vaccines would be made available for the public without any terms and conditions.

“Once again, [the vaccines will be free] without any requirements, without having to be a member of the BPJS Kesehatan,” said Nadia in Friday’s virtual press conference.

BPJS Kesehatan is the national Health Care and Social Security Agency overseeing health insurances and services for Indonesian citizens.

The Health Ministry is currently studying and adjusting the vaccination’s mechanism and scheme. “After those are done, we will disseminate them to regional governments and members of the public,” said the Health Ministry’s director of disease prevention and control.

Another step the vaccines must go through is to wait for the emergency distribution permit to be granted by the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) and a special recommendation from the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) in terms of the vaccine’s halal certificate.
