TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Wednesday firmly announced that he would be the first person in the country to be injected with the Covid-19 vaccine, in an attempt to build public trust towards the government’s nationwide vaccination.
"I will be the first recipient and be vaccinated for the first time to build public trust that the Covid-19 vaccine is safe for use," said the president as aired from the Presidential Secretariat's Youtube video on December 16.
The Indonesian Health Ministry’s Decree No.9860/2020 has issued the permit to use six vaccine variants in the country comprising Bio Farma, AstraZeneca, Sinopharm, Moderna, Pfizer/BioNTech, and Sinovac.
On December 6, there were 1.2 million doses of vaccines from Sinovac Biotech that landed at Soekarno-Hatta Airport. However, the vaccines are still waiting to pass the third trial conducted by state-pharmaceutical firm BioFarma and the University of Padjadjaran’s Faculty of Medicine.
The vaccine’s research team stated that the results from the COVID-19 vaccine’s third clinical trial will only produce results in January 2021 at the earliest.
