TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Soekarno-Hatta Airport head of immigrations, Romi Yudianto, said President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is scheduled to inaugurate the airport’s special route at Terminal 3 for migrant workers on Friday, Dec. 18.
He revealed that the new facilities for migrant workers were made available thanks to the partnership between the Law and Human Rights Ministry’s directorate general of immigrations and the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI).
“The BP2MI has prepared special facilities such as a new pathway and special counter,” said Romi to Tempo on December 15.
According to Romi, this new facility is a form of appreciation towards migrant workers which the government hails as ‘foreign exchange heroes.’ He said the facilities will be added as soon as the traffic generated from migrant workers increase again in the future.
The new route that is specifically made to serve migrant workers is also aimed to reduce the line of passengers arrival during the pandemic. Besides, Terminal IV that was set for the workers' transit terminal is no longer viable as they often became the victims of illegal levies.
