Rizieq Shihab Plans to Request for Pretrial, Says Lawyer

15 December 2020 16:08 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe legal representative of Islam Defenders Front (FPI) leader Rizieq Shihab on Tuesday said he is set to request a pretrial at the South Jakarta District Court. Rizieq's lawyer Sugito believes his client’s suspect naming and detention were legally wrongful.

“The pretrial files for Rizieq Shihab (HRS) had been completed yesterday. We plan to file the request today, Insyallah,” said Sugito at the Metro Jaya Police headquarters in South Jakarta.

Moreover, he revealed that Rizieq has yet requested a suspended sentence despite two guarantors from the House of Representative (DPR) legislators; Aboe Bakar Alhabsyi (PKS party), and Habiburokhman (Gerindra).

The Metro Jaya Police named Rizieq Shihab a suspect on December 12, 2020, after undergoing a 12-hour questioning. He will be detained for the next 20 days for allegedly violating Article 160 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) by enticing the public to conduct legal violations.
