TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Leader of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) Rizieq Shihab is being arrested at the Polda Metro Jaya Detention Center. He was taken from the General Criminal Investigation Directorate Building in a detention car.
Using a prison vest while his hands were handcuffed, Rizieq Shihab still had time to express his attitude after the questioning. "Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest). The struggle goes on. Stop legal discrimination,” he said in front of the Metro Jaya Police's Directorate of Narcotics Building, Sunday, December 13, 2020.
Rizieq Shihab underwent an interrogation starting from 10:30 to 22:00 WIB (Indonesia Western Time) on Saturday, December 12, 2020. However, he left the Ditreskrimum Polda Metro Jaya Building at around 00:23 WIB. Inspector General Argo Yuwono, Head of Public Relations Division at the National Police Headquarters, said that the detention was carried out after investigators questioned Rizieq Shihab with 84 questions during the 13-hour examination.
"After completing the investigation, the investigators read out the BAP again and some were corrected and added by the suspect," said Argo at Polda Metro Jaya early this morning. Now, Rizieq is also detained for the next 20 days at the Jakarta Police's Directorate of Narcotics Detention Center.
According to Argo, the decision to detain Rizieq Shihab took into account of the objective and subjective aspects of the investigator. Objectively, said Argo, the threat of punishment from the article that was suspected of being against Rizieq was more than 5 years. Meanwhile, the subjective, he continued, was so that the suspect would not run away, eliminate evidence, and not repeat his actions.
Police named Rizieq Shihab as a suspect in the alleged violation of health protocols in in Petamburan on November 14. The police charged Rizieq with Article 160 of the Criminal Code concerning inciting the public to commit criminal acts resulting in a public health emergency and Article 216 of the Criminal Code, with the threat of up to 6 years in prison.
Apart from Rizieq Shihab, there were five other FPI members who were also named suspects, namely Haris Ubaidillah, Ali Alwi Alatas, Maman Suryadi, Ahmad Sobri Lubis, and Idrus. They are subject to Article 93 of the Quarantine Law number 6 of 2018 with the threat of 1 year in prison.
