TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Islam Defenders Front (FPI) lawyer Aziz Yanuar said the families of victims of the deadly FPI-Police clash on the Cikampek toll road had given their consent for reautopsies of the bodies, particularly if the request came from the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM).

Insya Allah [God willing], [they] will give their consent [for reautopsies],” he told Tempo on Friday, 11 December 2020.

Komnas HAM has become the quickest independent body to probe the clash that resulted in the deaths of six FPI members. Komnas HAM commissioner Choirul Anam immediately visited the FPI headquarters in Petamburan, Central Jakarta, on the same day of the incident.

Aziz, however, said there had been no further talks yet with Komnas HAM pertaining to the possible reautopsies. It has been reported that the National Police had autopsied the bodies at the police hospital in Kramat Jati prior to returning them to their families.

Choirul Anam also said he could not confirm yet as to whether the reautopsies would take place. “We will see. There will be investigation with Jasa Marga and the police next week,” he said.

The National Police have yet to issue an official release on the results of their autopsies to date, while FPI general chairman Ahmad Shabri Lubis said there were multiple bullet wounds on the FPI members’ bodies.
