TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Yogyakarta Tourism Agency established a 360 virtual tour that is accessible through its official Youtube channel. The agency’s head of development and marketing, Yurnelis Piliang, said it was part of the city’s tourism promotion.
“Hopefully, it can promote the city tourism and a cure for people longing to visit Yogyakarta,” said Yurnelis.
By accessing the virtual tour videos, tourists can get up-to-date pictures of the city, especially its supporting facilities for tourism, such as airports, train stations, hotel accommodation, and homestays.
Some videos in the virtual tour also offer tourist attractions and culinary trips, including the implementation of health protocols that are mandatory for tourists.
People can just move their device’s screen to see the whole situation of a tourist destination or facilities. “Basically, the video is created to increase the number of tourist visits and their length of stay in the future, especially when the condition has returned to normal and the pandemic can be controlled,” Yurnelis added.
Besides the 360 virtual tours, Yurnelis informed that his side created videos about 17 tourist villages in the city. “Each video shows tourism potential in each village with its unique characteristics in terms of heritage, culinary food, cultural attractions, and tourist objects.”
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Yogyakarta estimated that by the end of 2020, it would record only 1.1 tourist visits, declined by around 70 percent of the target.
