TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) researcher Dewi Anggraeni on Monday said the suspect naming of Social Affairs Minister Juliari Batubara by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) should be the momentum for the government to fix its procurement of goods and services.
The state minister was named by KPK over allegations of corruption in the procurement of government COVID-19 aid.
According to Dewi, the ICW has mapped out the potential issues in the government’s COVID-19 public aid and the general government services for the pandemic and has recommended it to state-ministries, including the social affairs ministry.
Specifically, ICW found several issues regarding the public aid’s distribution processes that take form in illegal levies, error inclusion and exclusions due to databases that are not up to date, up to the politicization issues.
Due to this, the anti-graft watchdog is urging the government to manage procurement of goods and services transparently. “Through this, the public will be able to keep an eye on the procurements and judge whether it abides by existing rules,” said Dewi Anggraeni.
Moreover, ICW recommends the KPK to trackdown other parties that are potentially involved in Juliari Batubara's graft on the pandemic public aid.
