TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A member of the General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) Ratna Dewi Pettalolo, said that not a single stage of the 2020 Regional Head Election was free of violations, either its health protocol violation or election violation.
However, Dewi said that the number of health protocol violations surpassed other forms of violation.
"In our records, health protocol violation sits on the highest rank with 2,126 [violations]," Dewi said in a webinar on Saturday, December 5, 2020.
The second-largest violation was violation of the neutrality of civil servants with 1,166 violations, followed by administrative violations, election crime violations, and ethics code violations. Dewi asserted that the data serve as an important note for the Bawaslu for the upcoming quiet period before the regional head election scheduled to take place on December 9, 2020.
In the same forum, another member of the Bawaslu M Afifuddin presented findings that the number of face-to-face campaigns or limited meetings continue to rise. Afifuddin added that during the campaign period from November 25 to December 4, there were 32,446 face-to-face campaigns and/or limited meetings in 270 election regions.
"The number almost doubled compared to the November 15 to November 24 period,"Afifuddin said.
During the face-to-face campaign conducted in the November 25 to December 4 period, the Bawaslu discovered at least 458 activities that violated the Covid-19 health protocol. For the violations, Bawaslu has issued warning letters and/or dismiss the activities.
Afifuddin asserted that some 368 warning letters were issued in relation to the violations. "At least 64 campaign activities were dismissed by election supervisor," Afifuddin said.
