TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD on Monday openly condemned the vile crimes committed by the East Indonesia Mujahidin (MIT), which he strongly deemed as a terror group.
“[The MIT] is not a religious movement, but rather a criminal one committed against a family in Sigi, Central Sulawesi, which caused deaths and injuries to some people,” said Mahfud at his office on Jl. Medan Merdeka Barat on November 30.
He asked religious figures to spread peaceful messages to the public and emphasized that any religion on earth existed to collectively build peace and brotherhood.
He claimed the government had met the surviving relatives of the victims, and that there would certainly be follow-up steps on trauma healing for them. Mahfud MD also guaranteed the security of citizens following the sadistic killings by the East Indonesia Mujahidin members .
