Health Expert: Difficult to Remind People about Health Protocol Compliance

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A member of University of Indonesia (UI) business and economy chairperson-cum-expert of the COVID-19 mitigation team on behavior changes, Turro Wongkaren, said Indonesians were not truly abiding by the government’s health protocols.
He argued that this might stem from the sets of protocol that were not personally-related with society itself.
“If people personally understand the importance of doing so then everyone will be able to do so,” said Turro Wongkaren. “The same goes to the use of face masks for their own good.”
He also mentioned Indonesia's culture that was hesitant to directly remind people in public to wear face masks and maintain physical distancing. “People in other countries will not have a problem reprimanding another person in terms of maintaining a physical distance.”
