TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Terrorist convict Abu Bakar Baasyir has reportedly been rushed to a hospital for immediate treatment after sudden declining health. The Gunung Sindur penitentiary warden, Mujiarto, said Abu Bakar was admitted to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) following the advice of the doctor in the facility.
“That is correct. [Abu Bakar Baasyir] is being treated at the RSCM since Monday,” Mujiarto confirmed to Tempo in a phone call on Friday, November 27.
According to Mujiarto, this is not the first occurrence as the convicted terrorist and leader of the Majelis Mujahidin Indonesia had been admitted for hospital treatment five times during his time behind bars due to health complications.
“He once fell extremely ill which caused inflammation to his leg. It’s understandable as he is already old, over 80 years old,” said the warden.
When asked about the possibility that Abu Bakar Baasyir had contracted COVID-19, warden Mujiarto said that it is highly unlikely as the convict had been kept in the isolation block.
The latest report suggests that Baasyir’s condition is currently improving.
