TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Religious Affairs Minister Fachrul Razi reminded houses of worship to implement strict health protocol when holding Christmas services. The ministry, he added, would issue regulations regarding the religious event during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We have held a meeting to deliberate it with the Protestant Christian Affairs Directorate and Catholic Affairs Directorate,” said Fachrul Razi on Wednesday, November 24, 2020.
According to him, the appeal issued by the Religious Affairs Ministry would not be much different than those released for celebrations of holy days of other religions in the country, such as ones ahead of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha for Muslims.
“It is basically similar to the previous policies. We underline that in places of worship, people are prohibited to make crowds, must maintain distance with each other, check the health, and others. The rules will be the same,” said the minister as quoted from the task force page.
The celebration of religious holy days was closely related to the public homecoming so that the ministry would also issue regulations on the 2020 Christmas mass exodus, Fachrul Razi said.
