TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Islam Defenders Front (FPI) on Thursday denies rumors suggesting that its leader Rizieq Shihab is undergoing hospital treatment due to COVID-19.
FPI general secretary Aziz Yanuar simply replied to Tempo’s phone call on November 26 by saying it is a “Hoax” and assures that Rizieq is healthy and is currently at home.
Previously, a chain message circulated claiming to inform that the FPI leader had been admitted to the Bogor Ummi Hospital. This rumore comes after a week before, Rizieq was rumored to have contracted the coronavirus, which was denied by FPI spokesperson Novel Bamukmin.
Many unconfirmed information had surrounded Rizieq Shihab after the FPI leader arrived in Soekarno-Hatta Airport and attended several religious events in the area of Tebet, South Jakarta, on November 13 and another event at Bogor’s Megamendung which caused large groups of people to gather and ignore the government’s COVID-19 health protocol.
