Indonesia Adds 4,998 COVID-19 Cases in 24 Hours

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia added 4,998 fresh COVID-19 cases in a single day on Saturday, bringing the total tally to 493,308 cases, according to data from the Task Force for COVID-19 Response.

With 3,403 new recoveries recorded in a day, the total number of people who have recovered from the infection so far touched 413,955, the task force confirmed here on Saturday.

Meanwhile, 96 patients succumbed to COVID-19, taking the total death toll to 15,774.

With the addition of new cases, the country now has a total of 63,579 active cases, including those receiving medical treatment and conducting self-isolation for COVID-19.

The task force has also recorded 64,317 suspected cases of COVID-19.

The new cases were detected after the government examined 43,122 specimens obtained from 30,560 persons at 426 laboratories across Indonesia on Saturday. A total of 5,304,548 specimens from 3,526,607 persons have been examined since the country reported its first confirmed COVID-19 cases in March, 2020.

COVID-19 cases were reported in 505 districts and cities in the country's 34 provinces.

Among the provinces that registered the highest number of new cases on Saturday were Jakarta with 1,579 cases, Central Java with 655 cases, West Java with 364 cases, East Java with 343 cases, and Riau with 308 cases.

With the addition of 1,579 new cases, Jakarta's COVID-19 caseload reached 125,822 cases, with 114,770 people recovering from the infection and 2,509 people succumbing to it.

The three provinces of Riau Islands, Gorontalo, and Papua reported no new cases on Saturday.
