Luhut Meets Donald Trump; Asserts Importance in 'Preserving Friendship'

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - United States President Donald Trump on Tuesday, November 17, 2020, welcomed Indonesia's special envoy at the White House in Washington DC, which consists of Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investments Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan and Indonesian Ambassador for the US Muhammad Lutfi.
During their visit, Trump was accompanied by his advisors Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump and CEO of United States International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) Adam Boehler.
The maritime affairs ministry's press release dated November 18, 2020, noted that Luhut Pandjaitan conveyed President Joko Widodo's gratitude and appreciation for the bilateral partnerships that had been established between Indonesia and the United States.
"Representing President Joko Widodo, we convey our utmost gratitude and appreciation for President Donald Trump," said Luhut. "Whatever the results of the US election may end up to be, friendship must be preserved. I also hope great communication like this with the White House could be maintained after January of 2021."
Minister Luhut Pandjaitan also met with Vice President Mike Pence, who offered a partnership in producing the coronavirus vaccine with Indonesia. Separately, Luhut also met with the National Security Advisor Robert O'Brien to discuss a strategic partnership in the field of defense and technology between Indonesia and the US.
