TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Public policy expert Agus Pambagio on Tuesday argues the police summons of Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan is merely the authority’s act to build a good image for following up on violations against COVID-19 health protocols amid the pandemic.
“That was only to show that they have acted upon the problem,” said Agus Pambagio on Tuesday, November 17. “That is merely political. There will be no follow up. We’ll see.”
The Metro Jaya Police summoned the governor today in an attempt to demand clarification about the large crowd gathering that happened at events attended by Rizieq Shihab.
As it is well-known, the city administration, which is often reiterated by Anies Baswedan, has barred large gatherings from taking place in an attempt to break the chain of coronavirus infection.
The events were the wedding reception of Rizieq’s daughter and the Maulid Nabi commemoration in the area of Petamburan - a known basecamp for the Islam Defenders Front (FPI) which Rizieq Shihab leads.
