TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo asserted that the Covid-19 vaccine which was scheduled to arrive in Indonesia this month’s end will not be injected directly to the public.
“The vaccine will arrive at the end of November, and [we will] not conduct immunization right away. But we must be careful. The vaccine requires to pass several stages in BPOM (Food and Drug Monitoring Agency),” said Joko Widodo in a TV broadcast on Monday night, November 16, 2020.
The antibody, the President predicted, will be ready for public immunization around the end of 2020 or early 2021. He further claimed he is ready if he is asked to be the first person to get injected so that people will believe in the safety of the vaccine.
“If the expert team decides that the first person to be injected is the president, then I am ready,” he said, adding that the government has set a priority list of Covid-19 vaccine recipients. A number of professional groups that are at the frontline of the virus mitigation will be prioritized.
Jokowi revealed that the government has already had a list of groups for Covid-19 vaccination in the first batch. “They are health workers, doctors, nurses, the military and police personnel, public service officers, civil servants in prioritized public service offices, as well as teachers. The simulation will kick off next week,” he said.
