TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The COVID-19 mitigation task force chairman, Doni Monardo, appreciated Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan for imposing an administrative sanction on Rizieq Shihab for breaking the health protocol.
The Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) leader held public gatherings for celebrating the birthday of Prophet Muhammad or Maulid and his daughter’s marriage last Saturday that attracted large crowds.
“As the head of the COVID-19 mitigation task force, I’d like to express my appreciation to Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan for taking measurable steps against violations that occurred in Petamburan,” said Doni in a press conference on Sunday, November 15, 2020.
Doni said Anies had sent a team led by the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) to announce the administrative fine of Rp50 million to the event organizers. “This is the highest fine. If it (the violation) is repeated in the future, according to Anies, the fine will be doubled to Rp100 million,” he added.
Doni claimed that the city administration did not allow Rizieq Shihab to hold his daughter’s wedding event. “Jakarta has never permitted it. The Governor through the Central Jakarta Mayor has delivered a letter.”
Doni further appreciated the Jakarta COVID-19 mitigation task force who did not discriminate against people breaking the health protocol, especially those who did not wear face masks in the Maulid event in Petamburan by imposing fines on 17 people and physical sanction on 19 people.
