COVID-19 Vaccine Production Requires Time, Public Asked to Wait Patiently

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The spokesperson of the COVID-19 mitigation task force, Wiku Adisasmito, appealed to the public to be patiently waiting for the vaccine availability. He underlined that antibody production required time.

“This [requires time] because the SARS-Cov-2 virus strain is a new one that has never been examined before, so that the vaccine manufacturing process is highly dependent on the characteristics of each virus and requires more time,” said Wiku in a statement on Thursday, November 13, 2020.

The government will not be careless in producing a vaccine, according to Wiku. The long time required for the manufacturing process has been spent on clinical tests and approval. The vaccine must ensure public safety and health, he added.

"The main principle of the vaccine production is as mandated by President Joko Widodo, which includes ensuring that its procurement and vaccination are truly safe and effective under scientific principles based on scientific data and health standards,” said Wiku.
