Kadin to Hold Jakarta Food Security Summit

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) is set to hold the fifth biennial Jakarta Food Security Summit (JFSS) on November 18-19, 2020. The event aims at mobilizing stakeholders to realize national food security and sovereignty.

“JFSS is a cross-sectoral forum for the private sector, government, civil society organizations, international agencies, academics, and farmers,” said the chief executive of JFSS-5, Juan Permata Adoe, in a virtual press conference, Friday, November 13, 2020.

Juan added the forum could accommodate the best strategies to leverage national food productivity and farmers' welfare through good and environmentally-friendly agricultural practices.

For this year’s event, Kadin raised the theme of National Economic Recovery to Support Food Security and nutrition and enhance the welfare of farmers, ranchers, fishermen, and the processing industry.

Juan explained that in the current hard times of the COVID-19 pandemic, the food sector was becoming more strategic, otherwise, it would cause potential stability disruption. Moreover, the World Food Organization (FAO) had warned of a possible world food crisis due to the pandemic, he said.
