TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) on Friday went on to question the intent of The Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (Kontras) to publish a compilation video of numerous police brutality during the series of protests against the Job Creation Law (RUU Cipta Kerja).
Polri spokesman Brig. General Awi Setiyono confirmed to Tempo on November 13, “Our apologies if there are people very tendentious towards the Polri and it is not clear what their intentions are. But what’s clear is that they edited the demonstrations that ended up discrediting the Polri.”
Awi said the video clip compilation of police personnel’s repressiveness in the field does not show the complete series of events and claimed it did not show what had triggered the police in doing such acts.
However, General Awi promised to use the videos as an evaluation for the national police, especially in terms of implementing the correct standard operational procedure upon securing a public demonstration.
KontraS, through its social media account shared a sub-2-minutes compilation video containing police’s acts of brutality - which was flagged as sensitive content - throughout the anti-omnibus law demonstration.
