TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - NasDem Party representative speaker at the House of Representatives (DPR) legislation body (Baleg), Taufik Basari, on Thursday said the party will officially propose for the sexual violence draft known as RUU PKS to be included in the 2021 national legislation program (Prolegnas).
He claims that 59 NasDem members in the DPR have pledged to sign the petition.
“The NasDem faction is pushing for the draft bill on eradication of sexual violence to be included in the 2021 Prolegnas mainly because there has yet been any law that can guarantee protection and recovery for victims of sexual violence in Indonesia,” wrote Taufik in Thursday’s written statement.
He also expressed hope that this would not only be proposed by NasDem and expects that it would be pushed by other party factions in the DPR as lobbies and intense communication have been made.
The Law Commission member said he had communicated this to civilian groups and the National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan), which he claims produced an academic paper and new draft for the draft law that intends to protect victims of sexual violence.
“There are updates in the substances, which is important to not let the draft bill be stuck in the same debate as it did the last time,” said the NasDem legislator.
