Jakarta DPRD Suggests Allowing Businesses to Reopen, Including Nightclubs

10 November 2020 12:33 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Representative Council (DPRD) member from the PDIP faction, Gembong Warsono, suggested that the Jakarta Administration can allow businesses to reopen amidst the transitional PSBB (large-scale social restriction) which is a slackened restriction.

He also said that the businesses he refers to could also include nightlife entertainments such as nightclubs and karaoke bars. The DPRD representative said that by doing so can spark the economy again.

“I guess [they] can be reopened under several requirements,” wrote Gembong in a text message on Monday, November 9.

However, he noted that the government only needs to control the set of requirements to both help businesses generate income but all while trying to break the chain of COVID-19 infection. Gembong argues the data on infections that have declined - despite not too significant - can justify this decision.

“If the Jakarta administration allows those businesses to reopen, their monitoring must be equally strict,” said the DPRD member.
