TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe increasing activity of Mount Merapi located on the border between Central Java and Special Region of Yogyakarta provinces have temporarily stopped tourism in its vicinity, with the stratovolcano’s hiking tourism being the most obvious.

According to Nanda Cahyadi Pribadi, the Magelang Regency’s Assistant of Government and People's Welfare, the closure of any commercial activities in the region is needed as the alert level has been increased to ‘siaga’ (Alert).

“The closure is based in the circular by the Magelang’s Disparpora acting-head on November 7,” said Nanda on Sunday, November 8. “It will only be lifted after Mount Merapi shows signs of decreasing activities.”

The dozens of tourist sites include those located in four sub-regencies such as Srumbung, Sawangan, Dukun and Muntilan.
