TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Trans Retail Indonesia (TRI), which holds the right of Transmart Carrefour, issued an official statement following widespread boycotts against French products.
TRI spokesperson Satria Hamid said nearly 95 percent of products sold by the retailer consistded of domestic products bought from local suppliers.
He acknowledged there were French brands in the domestic category, but they were classified as such because they were exclusively manufactured in Indonesia, along with the use of raw materials and human resources that were sourced locally.
The Transmart Carrefour representative also claimed that out of the imported products, only a small amount of them were French brands that were not directly imported from France, but rather purchased from national distributors.
“The rest of the products or 5 percent are imports,” said Satria Hamid in a written statement on Friday.
Satria Hamid made sure the company committed to providing the sense of security and trust for its customers who shopped at the many Transmart Carrefour locations. He added that “TRI is 100 percent owned by Indonesia and is not directly linked to French products.”
Satria said since January 16, 2013 PT Trans Retail and PT Trans Lifestyle under CT Corporation acquired 100 percent of the ownership shares of PT Carrefour Indonesia, which was then renamed PT Trans Retail Indonesia.
