TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the South Jakarta chapter of Indonesian Medical Association (IDI), M. Yadi Permana, on Wednesday said chlorine-based detergent can be used to kill off the coronavirus (COVID-19) that might possibly stick to a face mask.
“The COVID-19 virus can die if, for example, we use normal detergent which contains chlorine,” said Yadi to Antaranews on November 4 as he shared tips to clean reusable face masks.
He went on to say that the used face masks, or cloth masks, shouldn't always be soaked in hot water before washing them with detergent, as stated in some literature.
"Chlorine-based detergent is able to kill off viruses," he said.
However, the South Jakarta IDI head encouraged people to separate their laundries from the used face masks.
