TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi has signed the contentious Job Creation Law. As published on the State Secretariat Legal Information and Documentation Network (JDIH) website, it was set as Law No. 11 of 2020.
However, Tempo observed there were still typographical errors, shortened to typo, in the 1,187-page policy. One of them is found in Article 6 Chapter III on the improvement of investment and business ecosystem on page 6.
This irregularity was also questioned by the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) faction of the House of Representatives (DPR) via its Twitter @FPKSDPRRI today, November 3.
The typo issues have indeed sparked a polemic since the DPR plenary meeting approved the omnibus law on October 5, 2020. The civil society coalitions discovered many typos and changes in the content of the law.
Article 46 on oil and gas, for example, was included in the 812-page final version submitted to the State Secretary. The article noted that the regulatory body has the authority to manage the distribution, control the oil and gas reserves, and approve tariffs for transporting natural gas by pipeline.
The removal of the article in the 1,187-page final review sent to the palace strengthened the suspicion that the rule drafting was carried out recklessly. Because, the DPR Legislation Body never approved the article to be listed in the Job Creation Law. By means, the article remained in the bill when the DPR enacted the omnibus law and even when it was delivered to the palace.
