Police Ban Motorcyclists from Sheltering Under Overpasses amid Rainfall

28 October 2020 12:01 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Metro Jaya Police traffic directorate, Grand Commissioner Sambodo Purnomo Yogo has banned motorcyclists on taking shelter from the rain under any overpass or flyover throughout the streets of Jakarta.

This comes after the fact that many motorcyclists continue the bad habit of crowding under flyovers as rain falls, which often causes traffic jams, even though there are clear signs and laws outlawing them.

“It will only cause congestion and create a domino effect to the other lane,” he said in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, October 28.

Motorcyclists who continue to do this will face fines on violations against Traffic Law Article 287. Police will only tolerate those who only briefly shelter under flyovers to wear their raincoat.
