Bank Indonesia: Orders on Covid Vaccines Helped Convince Global Investors

28 October 2020 10:43 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia governor Perry Warjiyo on Tuesday said that global investors’ confidence towards Indonesia’s financial sector is driven by the fact that Indonesia had placed orders on COVID-19 vaccines. This is believed to be positive for the country’s economic recovery.

“The confidence of global investors is supported by Indonesia’s order for vaccines,” said the Bank Indonesia governor in a virtual press conference on Tuesday, October 27.

He reasons that this can be seen by the flow of foreign investments into Indonesia’s financial market, especially the country’s state securities that have shown growth despite not being rapid. This reason alone, he implied, will support the general domestic financial system and spark economic growth.

Previously reported, the Coordinating Minister of Economics, Airlangga Hartarto, announced the government’s partnership with a number of COVID-19 vaccine producers such as Sinovac, AstraZeneca, Sinopharma, and Cansino.

Deals to order millions of doses of these vaccines coincide with the government’s own vaccine development dubbed the ‘Merah Putih’ coronavirus vaccine.
