Workers Hold Anti-omnibus Law Rally During Youth Pledge Day

28 October 2020 08:26 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coinciding with the Youth Pledge Day [Sumpah Pemuda], the labor unions GEBRAK and the Indonesian People’s Faction (FRI) announced to hold a rally at Central Jakarta’s Tugu Proklamasi [proclamation monument] on Wednesday, October 28, in protesting against the passing of the omnibus law on job creation.

“The rally tomorrow will coincide with the youth pledge day,” said Nining Elitos, GEBRAK spokesperson from the  Congress Alliance of Indonesian Labor Unions (KASBI) to Tempo on Tuesday, October 27.

The peaceful rally, according to Nining, will be filled with political orations, poetry recital sessions, theatrical plays, musical performances, and the recital of ‘the 2020 people’s pledge’ in an attempt to convey their rejection against the omnibus law on job creation.

Responding to the rally, the Jakarta Metro Police said sufficient police personnel will be mobilized to guard the rally that coincides with Indonesia’s collective leaves from October 28 - October, 2020.
